Okaïdi and ÏDKIDS mini-donations 2018: over 10,000 euros raised for Sport dans la Ville

From 20 February to 12 March 2018 Okaïdi and ÏDKIDS customers were asked to round up their total spend to the nearest euro to support Sport dans la Ville.

Thanks to the hard work of the Okaïdi and ÏDKIDS teams and the generosity of our customers, 11,250 euros was raised for Sport dans la Ville through 73,159 individual donations! The money will go towards funding a new sports and leisure centre in Roubaix.

Sport dans la Ville builds and runs sports centres in the heart of disadvantaged neighbourhoods. It is helping 6,000 young people aged 5 to 25 to integrate socially and professionally, playing an active role in their progression and personal development. Promoting professional integration through sport, it is the leading organization of its kind in France.

Okaïdi has supported the charity for three consecutive years because the values conveyed by sport (mutual support, solidarity, self-fulfilment and self-assertion) are in line with its mission to encourage every child to be self-motivated, happy and responsible.

Thanks to the 46,500 euros raised in 2017 through mini-donation campaigns and a 10,000-euro donation from the ÏDKIDS foundation, Sport dans la Ville netted the following goals:

  • A sports centre was set up in Roubaix’s Fresnoy neighbourhood, providing free football sessions for 130 children aged 6 to 17.
  • Fifteen young people aged 14 and over got help to start their working life through the Job dans la Ville programme (four work placements, two company visits and six mock job interviews).
  • Each young person received individual support with their family and school in their own environment by educators and their integration manager (17 family visits in total).

Concrete proof of what can happen when people come together and give a little to make a big difference! A big thank you to our customers for their commitment to helping children!

Chloé is merchandising manager and a sponsor of Sport dans La Ville

  • What is your current job?

“I’ve been part of the ÏDKIDS community for 14 years. I’m currently merchandising manager for Okaïdi, Obaïbi and the ÏDKIDS stores.”

  • What made you want to work with the foundation?

“When I finished my studies, I went on a humanitarian mission to Ecuador where I helped some young children with their schooling. From then on I felt I wanted to continue working for and with children.”

  • Why did you decide to become a sponsor of Sport dans la Ville?

“I was already familiar with Sport dans la Ville and the good work it does. When Okaïdi decided to support the charity, it made sense for me to take on the role of sponsor. The charity promotes the development of children from poor neighbourhoods through sport with values that reflect those of Okaïdi and the ÏDKIDS community in general: putting children at the heart of its activities; fostering teamwork, mutual support, solidarity and the pleasure of being together; and liberating your energy.”

  • How did the opening of the new sports centre in Roubaix in 2017 go?

“The first Sport dans la Ville centre was opened in Fresnoy, Roubaix in October 2017. The opening ceremony was simple and open to everyone as it was all about the children. They were delighted to see the playing field for the first time, and so were the parents! We felt extremely welcome in this neighbourhood!”
