Reducing the environmental impact of Okaïdi and ÏDKIDS

We Act For Kids is a commitment by ÏDKIDS to lessen its environmental impact on an ongoing basis.

Here are some of the measures stores have taken to reduce their impact on the environment.

  • Store fittings

With fixtures and fittings such as signage, furniture, lighting and tiling, a store contains an average of 10 tonnes of materials. These are chosen for their high quality so that they last as long as possible. For this reason, 90% of Okaïdi store furnishings are made from steel, which is 100% recyclable without altering its quality. This means it can be recycled indefinitely with no change to its original properties.

The paint used is also environmentally-friendly.

When a store is opened or revamped, as much material as possible is recovered (e.g. façades, metal shutters, floor coverings, old furniture) and reused.

Whichever country the store is based in, it adheres to the same technical, environmental and financial constraints.

  • Limiting the transportation of store fittings

To limit the transportation of store fittings as far as possible, stores can refer to a map of local suppliers. There are designated furniture and lighting suppliers for each major geographical area (e.g. Asia and Eastern Europe).

To further reduce energy consumption related to transport, Okaïdi and ÏDKIDS have made a commitment to have their store fittings and building work carried out by businesses located close to the store.

  • Optimized lighting

For ten years measures have been in place to optimize store lighting to save energy. This is called “relamping”. Incandescent light bulbs have gradually been replaced by more high-performance, longer-lasting lamps such as energy-saving lights and LEDs. All of the illuminated signs and logos we have had since 2015 are 100% LED.

  • Air conditioning

Wherever technically possible, water-based air conditioning systems are replaced with air-based ones. Air-based systems consume less water and electricity. ÏDKIDS community brands have made reducing their environmental impact one of their key objectives.
