Love Maille: knitting the community together

A look at the partnership between the ÏDKIDS foundation, the charity Amitié Partage and Phildar set up to help women create a hand-knitted Jacadi babywear collection as a first step back to employment.

This innovative return-to-work project launched in 2012 helps mums in difficulty, with the help of Amitié Partage, to knit a capsule babywear collection designed by Jacadi with wool provided by Phildar.

The aim of the programme is to help them regain enough self-confidence to enter vocational training or employment. Since its launch almost 50 women have either found work or enrolled in a vocational training course.

With the help of a technical supervisor, these women first learned to knit and then produced an actual babywear collection. In 2016, there were 270 fully handmade hats, bootees, sweaters, cardigans and bloomers for sale exclusively on the Jacadi website. There was also a navy knitted teddy bear sweater to match the boys’ navy sweater.

The initiative was very well received by Jacadi’s customers and the profits went to the ÏDKIDS foundation to help women reintegrate into the community. The Love Maille project is an integral part of the ÏDKIDS initiative to take care of children and their parents.
