FOR HUMAN RIGHTS, THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD AND LABOUR RIGHTS

Guided by an ethical charter in our environmental and social practices, we have made responsibility towards people our primary commitment. Our teams and independent experts ensure working condition compliance at our suppliers. A Code of Conduct for Partners and Suppliers governs all our business relationships. And since the creation of Okaïdi in 1996 we have been working to raise the awareness of our stakeholders, starting with our customers, parents and children, with regard to protecting of children’s rights.

EMPLOYEE PROTECTION AT OUR SUPPLIERS

Audit and train our supplier partners

Our primary responsibility in terms of CSR is to place the people at the centre of all our commitments, whether it be our teams or our partners.

Together, we undertake to comply with an ethical code inspired by OECD guiding principles and ILO conventions. Signed by all suppliers with whom we have established business relations, it aims to put an end to forced labour, discrimination and corporal punishment in all our countries of production. Suppliers are systematically audited before being listed. They are then regularly assessed by independent firms. IDKIDS teams are deployed locally close to suppliers in China, Bangladesh and India to provide support, monitoring and checking services.

In addition, the ICS (Initiative for Compliance and Sustainability), a group of experts bringing together some forty companies, which works to improve working conditions in a sustainable manner and to support suppliers in a responsible manner, in order to make them actors in their progress. The purpose of this organization is to improve social progress around the world by sharing measurements and monitoring manufacturers’ progress.

Promoting the rights of the child

The International Convention on the Rights of the Child is made up of 54 articles signed by 185 countries that set out the civil, economic, social and cultural rights of children under the age of 18, recognizing their full rights.

Signed 30 years ago by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), this text inspired the 12 values of OKAÏDI, the founding brand of the IDKIDS group, launched in 1996. These values guide our commitment and our daily actions: to make children happy and active in their lives!

Each year, International Children’s Day is an opportunity for Okaïdi to recall how important it is that these rights are upheld and defended everywhere in the world. In 2019, on the 30th anniversary of the signing of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, the entire IDKIDS community mobilized to encourage everyone to support Children’s Rights.

Make children aware of their rights

In connection with the 30th anniversary of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, we chose to support the  ASMAE association which has been working in France and internationally for 40 years to promote the education and protection of vulnerable children.

Okaïdi has organized Mini Donation operations to support their work. The money raised has helped to finance 4000 workshops to raise awareness of children’s rights, offered to pupils throughout France in the form of an escape game. This workshop was previewed and tested by a group of children at OKAIDI headquarters. It was completed by a co-creation session between the children and the brand designers. Their creations – children’s rights supporters’ T-shirts – were then submitted to the Okaïdi community’s vote on social networks before being marketed in spring 2020.

"The cornerstone of our partnership is the "Yalla for Children's Rights" programme, which raises awareness among thousands of pupils and their teachers each year through participatory, fun and informative classroom activities. Knowing about these rights is essential if they are to be respected!
The quality and fluidity of our discussions have led to some great innovations: the Children's Rights Escape Game in class, its mobile app version (currently being designed), a booklet and a game of happy families offered at the till."

Putting children's rights to music

This is what Okaïdi has enabled a group of children to do. The book album WE ARE WORLD CITIZENS helps them to understanding of their rights in 12 songs inspired by 12 articles of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child: who protects them? What are their freedoms? How can they be helped to thrive and pursue their dreams? Songs to reflect on and to open their eyes to citizenship and freedom.
