{"id":7925,"date":"2019-06-17T18:29:05","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T16:29:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corporate-idkids-com.azurewebsites.net\/emballages-cartons-et-sachets-plastique-les-progres-didkids\/"},"modified":"2019-07-22T12:42:47","modified_gmt":"2019-07-22T10:42:47","slug":"emballages-cartons-et-sachets-plastique-les-progres-didkids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/en\/emballages-cartons-et-sachets-plastique-les-progres-didkids\/","title":{"rendered":"Packaging, cardboard boxes and plastic bags: how we&#8217;re doing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Making the best use of cardboard boxes, plastic bags and packaging is at the heart of the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/en\/we-act-for-kids\/a-global-csr-approach\/\"><strong>HESSERBraC<\/strong><\/a><strong> ethos under which \u00cfDKIDS is committed to reducing the impact of its products on the environment.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two types of packaging get our attention:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>PRIMARY OR PRODUCT PACKAGING<\/strong> is the immediate layer of packaging users see and touch when they buy the product. Protection and branding are its main functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/en\/brand\/oxybul\/\">Oxybul<\/a> has focused on\ntwo aspects of primary packaging:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Eco-designing<\/strong> new products to make the best (i.e. least) use of packaging, like\nthis ball whose label is printed directly on rather than attached to it.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Refitting existing packaging<\/strong> so that there is only one piece of packaging to dispose of, boxes have no &#8220;empty&#8221; spaces and recycled materials are used wherever possible (32 items have already been repackaged in this way). <em>Video hereafter<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Before<\/strong> :  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"275\" src=\"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7692\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184.jpg 480w, https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184-305x175.jpg 305w, https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184-42x24.jpg 42w, https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184-140x80.jpg 140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After <\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"275\" src=\"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184_new.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7690\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184_new.jpg 480w, https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184_new-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184_new-305x175.jpg 305w, https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184_new-42x24.jpg 42w, https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/327184_new-140x80.jpg 140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>SECONDARY OR TRANSIT PACKAGING<\/strong> allows the product to be transported safely from the warehouse to the store or directly to the customer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since June 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/en\/brand\/okaidi\/\">Oka\u00efdi<\/a> has worked on finding ways to get rid of the plastic sleeves in which individual items are packed and on which barcodes are stamped in the boxes used to ship every new collection. Since September 2018 it has achieved this for three-quarters of its product families. This means that 8,842,186 items have been ordered without plastic sleeves, which equates to 44 less tonnes of plastic. The next step is to reduce the number of plastic sleeves in boxes used to ship fresh stock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> 8,842,186 items ordered without plastic sleeves, <\/p><p>which equates to 44 less tonnes of plastic in 2018<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.idkids.com\/en\/idkids-raises-its-logistics-game\/\">new\npackaging machines<\/a> have been installed at Oka\u00efdi&#8217;s logistics facilities.\nThese machines fold boxes according to their contents, making them exactly the\nright size. This has increased the number of boxes that can be stacked on a\npallet from 20 to 40 and thus reduced the number of trucks needed to transport\nthem. A new automatic carton sealer has also allowed us to make our boxes more\nsecure while making life easier for our packers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re thinking outside the box, one flap at a time.
