Recycling clothes hangers while hanging close together with an organization that employs people with intellectual disabilities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, 1.5 million hangers passed through Oka\u00efdi <\/a>stores and warehouses. Some did not always manage to, er, hang on. Up till then, all used hangers, whatever their condition, were gathered up and simply thrown away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sure there was a better way, the equipment\npurchasing staff set up a system in line with Oka\u00efdi’s CSR ethos, known as HESSERBraC<\/a>\n(Human, Entrepreneurial, Social, Societal and Environmental Responsibility of\nour Brands dedicated to Children). Now surplus hangers are sent over for\nsorting before recycling to Le\nRecueil<\/a>, a vocational rehabilitation concern run by Les Papillons Blancs de\nRoubaix-Tourcoing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why work with Oka\u00efdi? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love the jobs Oka\u00efdi sets us because\nthey’re so simple. They allow us to give our folks the chance to work. That’s\nour first task, to enable them to feel and make themselves useful by doing a\njob that is suited to their abilities and lets them develop skills one step at\na time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does it work? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every person is given a job they can do. To\ngive you an example, Laurent can count, so he sorts the hangers into bundles of\nten. Marc can’t count, so he uses a tool to pick out ten hangers at a time.\nThis helps him learn to match quantities to numbers. Fran\u00e7ois prefers working\nalone, so he removes the size tags attached to each hook. And Marie performs\nthe quality checks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
