Preferred by mums for their children’s clothing, cotton is also the most used fibre in Oka\u00efdi<\/a> and Jacadi<\/a> collections. But its conventional production is very polluting. That’s why since 2016 \u00cfDKIDS has been working to source it from more responsible growers. All well and good. But what exactly is organically grown cotton? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because\nthe conventional production of cotton is very polluting and uses up a lot of\nwater, in 2016 \u00cfDKIDS set itself the target of\nsourcing and tracing all of its cotton from more responsible suppliers by 2025, meaning that: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. We know where the cotton comes from. <\/li>
  2. Its production respects the environment. <\/li>
  3. It’s produced in decent working conditions. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    What are our plans for\norganically grown cotton? <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

     After a trial run with key\nsuppliers to test the feasibility of organic cotton and identify areas for\nimprovement, we’re now ready to move to the next stage with respect to Oka\u00efdi,\nthe \u00cfDKIDS community brand that uses the most cotton. By 2025 we want all\nOka\u00efdi products to be made out of organic and\/or recycled cotton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For Jacadi it’s a bit more complicated due to lower volumes.\nNonetheless we’re trying out organic cotton for five boys’ items this summer.\nWe’re aiming to source 16% of our Winter 2019 collection and 20% of our Summer\n2020 collection from organic cotton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Why does this matter? <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Concern for the environment and society is the foundation of HESSERBraC<\/a>, our CSR policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If we want to make a difference, we have to start at home and in our own industry by ecodesigning products and building a socially responsible supply chain. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
