Jacadi<\/strong><\/a> has been testing a new, more environmentally-friendly type of packaging for a few days: the “infinite” envelope. Pierre-Louis Behot, Supply Chain Project Manager explains. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is an infinite envelope? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The infinite envelope is innovative fabric packaging made from recycled yarns by <\/strong>Tissages de Charlieu<\/strong><\/a> located in the Loire, France.  What makes it different? It can be reused 100 times! The envelope is sewn on the way out of the warehouse and is then easily opened in the store.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How is it more environmentally-friendly than recycled & recyclable cardboard?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

100 boxes are needed for 100 standard deliveries, whereas only one envelope is needed to make 100 deliveries.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

AT THE END OF ITS LIFE CYCLE, THE ENVELOPE HAS GENERATED A TOTAL OF 20 TIMES LESS CO2 THAN 100 BOXES! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the Jacadi test? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The test consists of shipping Jacadi Belgium click & collect orders in the new infinite envelope packaging.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A reverse logistics system has been put in place thanks to a partnership with our carrier, i.e. once the order has been handed over to the customer, the packaging is returned to the IDLOG warehouse in Dourges for reuse. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do we want to validate with this test? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many test objectives, namely:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. identifying all the obstacles to the implementation of reverse logistics on this type of packaging. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. confirming the choice of this fabric solution.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. ensuring that all stakeholders manage to coordinate to avoid envelope shortages. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    What could be next?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We could extend its use to web orders with home delivery. The sales strategy for the envelope still needs to be adjusted, but we might envisage a slight extra cost for packaging that will be reusable by our customers, for example. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
